A Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization is sending out mailers across the United States seeking to increase voter registration in the country, but it has led to confusion among a percentage of Twin Lakes Area residents. The Ozark County Clerk’s Office reports the mailers from the Voter Participation Center has led to the office receiving several phone calls from its citizens claiming the mailers appear similar to official letters incorrectly informing them they are not registered to vote.

Ozark County Clerk Brian Wise says this issue is not found just in the county or the state of Missouri, but it has been a problem all throughout the U.S.

The original mailers had another issue in addition to the incorrect voter registration information. According to Wise, they also had the wrong deadline to register in the state of Missouri for the upcoming general election.

The Voter Participation Center’s headquarters are in the nation’s capital, but it has offices throughout the country. According to Wise, one office is located in Springfield.

Ozark County residents that receive the mailer or have questions about their voter registration status are encouraged to contact the clerk’s office at 417-679-3516.
