Reprise RecordsA new concert album documenting a March 2007 Eric Clapton show that features a guest appearance by the guitar legend’s friend and collaborator JJ Cale will be released on September 30. Eric Clapton Live in San Diego with Special Guest JJ Cale captures a 16-song set by Clapton and his backing band, that included Cale sitting in on five of the tunes.

Clapton’s touring group at the time included Allman Brothers Band slide guitarist Derek Trucks and the acclaimed Willie Weeks and Steve Jordan on bass and drums, respectively. Cale joins Eric and company for a set of his own compositions, including renditions of the Clapton hits “Cocaine” and “After Midnight,” and three songs from the two musicians’ 2006 collaborative release, The Road to Escondido.

Other well-known songs performed by Clapton at the show include “Wonderful Tonight,” “Layla” and a cover of Jimi Hendrix‘s “Little Wing.” Closing out the show is a rendition of the Robert Johnson classic “Crossroads” featuring Robert Cray, who was Eric’s opening act on the 2007 tour.

You can watch a video of Clapton and Cale’s live performance of the Road to Escondido track “Anyway the Wind Blows” on Eric’s official YouTube channel.

Live in San Diego will be available as a two-CD release, a limited-edition three-LP 180-gram vinyl set and a digital download.
