Our Community Cares

December

The Mountain Home Christian Clinic is a group of volunteers who have come together to work as a team to provide charitable health care to those members of our community who for various reasons cannot afford care by the established system. They are advocates for persons in need.

The clinic's purpose is to provide medical care and support to persons who cannot obtain these services in other ways. For this reason they do not see persons who have Medicaid, Medicare or private insurance. Federal poverty guidelines are used to screen for need.

Professional volunteers provide medical care. Lay volunteers provide ancillary services as well. There are now approximately 425 active volunteers who are members of over 75 different Christian congregations. Services include: complete pharmacy services; primary medical care; optometry and eye glasses; physical, respiratory and occupational therapy; diabetes management; nutritional counseling; spiritual counseling; social work referrals; prescription refills; resource referrals; medical lab and x-ray services; emergency dental care; and medication assistance for clinic patients.

·        Open 5 days a week to provide support and medicine distribution

·        General medical clinic open 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month – average 60 patients

·        Diabetic clinic open 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month – average 30 patients

·        Provide $150,000 medication a month

·        MHCC operating budget of $12,000 a month

·        For every $1 donated, $18 of medical care is provided to our community

·        The MHCC is completely free to the patients who need it

November

What if our community had a shelter to house victims of domestic violence and abuse?  What if it was more than just a safe bed and hot meal for women and children?  What if it women could get the strength they needed to leave unhealthy relationships and the training to rebuild their life for them and their children.  Fortunately for our community, we have that shelter and so much more in Serenity.  Join Arkansas State University Mountain Home, Infodash and the Purple Door this month as we show Our Community Cares.  Find out how you can help at www.serenityinc.org. Our Community Cares for Serenity.

Some of the donations collected for Serenity during our  Community Cares program.

Students and faculty of Arkansas State University Mountain Home and employees of

Infodash recently toured Serenity, Inc. as part of the Our Community Cares program.

An average of 17 women and their children stay at the shelter every night of the year,

some sleeping up to 5 people per room.  Find out how you can be a part of Our Community

Cares and help Serenity by contacting KTLO at 425-3101 or Serenity at 424-7576.
