We are in a predicament with our milk flow and in order to get a cow that is currently fresh and milking heavily, we are going to have to let go of one of our other girls.
Daisy is 6 years old and pregnant with her 5th calf. We have had her through each of her 4 lactations. She gave 4 1/2 gallons/day as a first calf heifer and her milk has increased each lactation. She gave over 6 gallons/day last lactation. We have used her as a nurse cow partly through each of her last 3 lactations and in only takes her a couple of days to accept a new calf and has often been nursing more than one at a time. She gives tons of cream and late into her lactation her milk will be 1/2 cream. It isn't as thick as some of our other girls but there is a lot more of it. She is hand milked by my 13 year old son and she has been around all our kids, even at milking time. The twins are often in the barn while the boys are milking. She is still milking 1 to 1/2 gallons/day but will need to be dried off at the first of the year. She last calved in September of last year.
She was confirmed bred by our vet in late August and will be calving in March. She is due the third week but has consistently calved early each time so I would expect a calf in early March.
She is 42" tall, halter broke, very gentle, and an easy keeper. She would be an excellent family cow and if it weren't for my ability to not meet our milk needs right now, there is no way I would sell her. Expect me to ball like a baby when she leaves, whoever the lucky person will be....I do reserve the right to choose her new home - she means a lot to me and it will not just be a first come first serve.
