ABC Radio“Okay, so y’all like it COUNTRY!” Lee Ann Womack joked with the crowd, as she played the MusiCares benefit Tuesday night at AJ’s Good Time Bar in downtown Nashville.
The 2001 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year proved her vocal chops are still second-to-none in an intimate set that featured hits like “A Little Past Little Rock,” “I May Hate Myself in the Morning,” “Never Again, Again,” “Does My Ring Burn Your Finger,” and “Solitary Thinkin’.”
Along the way, she also included album cuts like “All the Trouble,” from her current record, The Lonely, the Lonesome, & the Gone, as well as “Chances Are” and “Don’t Listen to the Wind,” from The Way I’m Livin’. Lee Ann closed, appropriately, with a stripped-down version of her signature song, “I Hope You Dance.”
Newcomer Jackie Lee and Texas favorite The Randy Rogers Band opened the evening, which raised money for the charitable arm of the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammys. The effort continues, with an online auction that goes through May 4 on CharityBuzz.com.
The concert is just a preview of what fans will see Saturday, June 9, as Lee Ann plays the main stage at Music City’s Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest 2018.
