It was a much improved performance by the Mountain Home High School football team Friday night but their efforts came up a little short against Marion in their conference opener. Brad Haworth has the details.

After scoring just 13 points in their first three games, the Bombers needed just over eight and a half minutes to put 14 points on the board but the big play ability of Marion led the Patriots to a 46-35 win. Marion had touchdowns of 90, 87, 68, 68, 47, 40 and 18 yards on the night.
Drake Walker, the Mountain Home quarterback, had a huge night before leaving in the fourth quarter with a head injury. Walker led the team in rushing, passing and receiving. He carried the ball 23 times for 109 yards, was 18 of 31 through the air for 131 yards and had one catch for 70 yards on the night.
It was that catch that got the game started with a bang. The Bombers ran a reverse pass with Zane Walker hitting big brother Drake with the seventy yard bomb.
But on the ensuing kickoff, Fernando Smith returned it 90 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at seven 40 seconds into the contest. On their first offensive play of the game, Marion's Dereon Thomas broke off a 68 yard run for a score.
On their next posession, Mountain Home tied the game at 14 on a one yard run by Drake Walker.
Walker hooked up with Ralph Love on a nine yard scoring pass just before halftime to put the Bombers up 21-20 at the break.
The Mountain Home quarterback would score on runs of 45 and 55 yards in the second half. His last T.D. run put Mountain Home up 35-32.
But Marion came back to take the lead on their next play from scrimmage when Andreas Jackson scampered 68 yards for a score. After an interception, Thomas had his second touchdown of the night for Marion's second touchdown in 29 seconds to put the game out of reach.
With the loss, Mountain Home falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the 7A/6A East. Marion improves to 2-2 and 1-0. Mountain Home will travel to Searcy next Friday night.
