Three people who were riding horses on Baxter County Road 25 were injured Monday night when the horses were struck by a vehicle driven by a Mountain Home man, according to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery. Injured in the 5:52 p.m. accident which occurred north of Mountain Home near Stonewood Lane were 20-year old Miranda McGowan, 18-year old Tristan Bixler and 20-year old Colton Scott, all of Mountain Home. McGowan was flown by Air Evac to a Springfield hospital, while Bixler and Scott were taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center. No information was available on McGowan's condition. Neither Bixler nor Scott are listed as patients at Baxter Regional Tuesday morning.
The accident, which was investigated by Baxter County Deputy Doug Meurer, occurred when a 29-year old James Jody Buchannan was driving a GMC Jimmy northbound on County Road 25 and rounded a curve and struck the horses. Buchanan was cited for reckless driving and having no insurance.
