Cotter mayor responds to allegations by former firefighter

Cotter Mayor Peggy Hammack has issued a response to the most recent allegations by former Cotter firefighter, John Bell.   At the December meeting of the Cotter City Council, Bell blamed the loss of 25 experienced firefighters during the past two years to poor management by the mayor, some members of the city council and the previous and current fire chiefs.   Bell contends training records have been falsified and financial fraud was committed in obtaining state funding for the fire department in 2012.   He told those attending the meeting he believed everyone living in Cotter is less safe than they were two years ago.
In response, Mayor Hammack said she and city attorney, Roger Morgan, would check into any and all accusations.   She said she strongly supports Cotter's current fire department and is confident in their certification training and abilities to assist the community with medical calls and protecting property from fire destruction.   Hammack encouraged the community to continue to show their support of the Cotter Fire Department and said she and Cotter Fire Chief David Guist are available for questions from members of the community.
Mayor Hammack and Chief Guist may be reached at 435-6326.
