NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ The first winter storm of the year brought snow and ice from southwestern Oklahoma into northwestern Arkansas.
Authorities say roads in the region were left slick and hazardous, but despite numerous traffic accidents there had been no fatalities reported as the storm that entered Oklahoma Sunday morning moved into Arkansas by Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for far southeastern Oklahoma, a winter storm warning from Oklahoma to Arkansas and winter weather advisories in much of the two states on Sunday _ but meteorologist Marc Austin in Norman says the storm didn't produce as much wintry precipitation as first expected.
Forecasters say the weather is expected to clear briefly before another system with snow and possibly freezing rain moves across both states starting late Monday.
