Wednesday's sports results



Cotter split their openers Wednesday in the 2A-2 Junior District Basketball Tournament at White County Central High School near Judsonia.
The Junior Lady Warriors advanced to the semifinals with a 59-30 victory over Cedar Ridge. Marleigh Dodson led Cotter with 14 points, and Makayla Bramblett added 13.
Cotter did not fare as well in the boys' bracket as they wer eliminated by Walnut Ridge 46-40. The Junior Warriors were led by Matthew Gorbet with 15 points, and Maddux Adams chipped in 12. Cotter's season ends at 23-5.

On the high school level, Bakersfield's girls fell to Morrisville 72-67 in the Seymour Varsity Tournament. Sam Kuk was the Lady Lions' leading scorer with 21 points, and Betsy Minkler and Val Amerlan each had 14.

A couple of local schools' bowling teams qualified for state as they took part in the 3A/2A/1A-West Conference Tournament at Fast Lane Entertainment in Lowell.
Norfork's boys finished third on the day behind conference champion Elkins and runner-up Conway St. Joseph. Austin Stinnett and Brendan Casey were named All-Conference for the Panthers as they rolled a 537 and a 523 respectively. In addition, Zane Harris had a 512 series for Norfork.
On the girls' side, Flippin and Norfork qualified for the state tournament as they were fourth and fifth. Similar to the boys' results, Elkins and St. Joseph were first and second, and Guy-Perkins ended up third. Maggie Dudgens was selected All-Conference for the Lady Panthers as she had the fourth-higest individual effort with a 446. Also for Norfork, Tabitha Saldana bowled a 367 series, and Stacey Mooney added a 352.
Both Norfork teams and Flippin's girls will compete in the Classes 3A/2A/1A State Tournament Wednesday, February 19th, at the Jonesboro Bowling Center.
