Baxter County man arrested in Mississippi

      The Baxter County Sheriff's Office was notified  that 34 year old Michael David Hamilton has been arrested and taken into custody by authorities in Gulf Port, Mississippi at 6 a.m., Thursday morning. According to a report from the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, Hamilton was wanted by the Baxter County Sheriff's Department following an assault and disturbance in the Buford area that sent four people to the hospital early Sunday morning. Hamilton fled the scene of the assault before Baxter County Sheriff's Deputies arrived. Tuesday, the sheriff's office obtained a bench warrant for the arrest of Hamilton, charging him with aggravated robbery, battery in the first degree, three counts of battery in the second degree and theft of property. Hamilton was also the suspect in the theft of a 2007 red Dodge truck that occurred later Sunday morning.
     Officers in Gulf Port began searching for Hamilton after he was identified as a suspect in a series of serious crimes that were committed early Thursday morning. Apparently, Hamilton concealed himself inside a sports store in Gulf Port. Officers responded to an alarm at the business around 3:30 a.m. They found the locks and chains used to secure the firearms had been cut, and several firearms had been stolen. The 2007 red Dodge truck stolen from Baxter County was found in the parking lot.
     Shortly after, officers responded to a nearby RV park where the owners had been held at gun point, tied up and had their vehicle stolen. Following that incident, officers responded to a commercial chemical company where persons there had also been held at gunpoint, tied up and had their vehicle stolen. Mississippi authorities found the stolen Vehicle driven by Hamilton and initiated a traffic stop. He was taken into custody without further incident.
     Authorities in Mississippi anticipate the filing of up to ten felony charges against Hamilton. The charges include, kidnapping, armed robbery and theft. he is being held in the Harrison County jail in Mississippi. A hold will be placed for Baxter County on the outstanding bench warrant. According to Sheriff Montgomery, it is unlikely Hamilton will be returned to Arkansas to face those Baxter County charges for quite some time.
     Authorities in Mississippi said no one was injured in the series of crimes committed Thursday morning.
