State legislature moves closer to providing funds to close NABORS landfill

A source of funds to be used to close the bankrupt NABORS landfill in northern Baxter County moved closer to becoming a reality Thursday when the Joint Budget Committee of the Arkansas General Assembly passed an amendment to the Landfill Post-Closure Trust Fund.   The amendment, sponsored by State Senator Johnny Key, would allow funds from the trust to be used to close the landfill.   Key says the amendment to the appropriation for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality now moves to the house and senate where he believes it will pass.
