A Batesville man was arrested by Izard County Sheriff's deputies on a theft by receiving warrant after allegedly taking $8,000 worth of guns and ammunition from his grandfather and pawning them while the grandfather was in the hospital recovering from a broken leg.
According to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence, 34-year-old Jimmy Hooper was arrested after the stolen guns were found by an investigator in pawn shops in Searcy and Bald Knob. Hooper is on probation with the Arkansas Department of Correction for having been found guilty of felony forgery and breaking and entering in Independence County. Lawrence said Hooper is being held in the Independence County jail for the charges in that county. District Judge David E. Miller set the bond on the Izard County charges at $25,000.
Hooper's brother, Jacob Hooper, has a warrant for his arrest relating to the theft. At this time, Jacob Hooper has not been arrested.
