Bodenhamer files for BXCO judge; Ucthman to challenge Montgomery for sheriff

A possible race for Baxter County Judge became a reality Friday with the filing by Joe Bodenhamer as an independent candidate. Bodenhamer filed petitions with the Baxter County Clerk's Office that were signed by more than 800 county voters. He is required by law to have 448 signatures in order to run as an independent. The clerk's office has ten days to verify the petitions.
Bodenhamer, who served six terms as county judge as a Democrat, was defeated by incumbent Mickey Pendergrass, a Republican, in November 2012. Pendergrass has filed for reelection and if he wins the Republican primary in May it sets up a race in the November general election between he and Bodenhamer.
Also filing Friday was Gassville Police Sgt. Everett L. Uchtman, a Democrat, for the position of Baxter County Sheriff. That sets up a race between he and incumbent Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, a Republican, who filed for reelection Thursday.
A race for the Republican nomination to the District 6 seat on the Baxter County Quorum Court materialized Friday when incumbent Gary Tennison filed for reelection to the seat he currently holds.   He will face challenger Rhonda "Tink" Albright who filed Monday.   Two races in the November General Election for seats on the Baxter County Quorum Court also developed when Democrat Kevin Bodenhamer filed for the District 8 seat he currently holds.   He is being challenged by Republican Edna-Marie J. Fusco, who filed for her party's nomination Thursday.   Incumbent District 3 Justice of the Peace Michael Beck, a Republican who filed Monday, is set to face Democrat Jerry W. Smith who filed for that seat on the Baxter County Quorum Court Friday.
Democrat Charles L. Slater, Jr., a Democrat filed Friday for reelection to the position of Baxter County Surveyor he currently holds and Democrat Jason Bradly filed for the position of Constable in Baxter County District 4.
In Marion County there were four filings creating a race for county assessor and the District 7 seat on the Quorum Court.   Republican Alesia V. Owen, who filed Friday will face Democrat Tonya A. Eppes who filed Monday and Independent candidate Kelley H. Hurst who filed Friday will face Republican Marion Wesley Shipman for the JP position representing Marion County District 7.   Other filings Friday include Incumbent Keith Sullivan, a Republican, who filed for reelection to the position of Marion County Surveyor and Democrat Brady Madden filed for the District 6 seat he currently holds on the Marion County Quorum Court.
The filing period for candidates closes at noon Monday.
