Ex-Sen. Bookout fined $4K for ethics violations

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ Former state Senator Paul Bookout has agreed to pay a $4,000 fine for violating state ethics laws related to his 2010 election campaign funds.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Saturday that Bookout signed a consent order in which he agreed to pay the fine and not contest charges by Jason Tolbert of Benton.
Bookout agreed that the state Ethics Commission found that he violated state laws by using ``a significant portion of his 2010 campaign funds and carry-over funds to make expenditures for items not related to his campaign or office as a state senator.''
Bookout _ a Democrat _ resigned in August after the Ethics Commission found that he spent money from 2012 his re-election bid on dozens of personal items. He was fined $8,000 and reprimanded for those violations.
