Midway man arrested for failure to register as a sex offender

A Midway man who is a registered sex offender has been arrested by the Baxter County Sheriff for failure to update his address as is required by law.   Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 52 year old Eduardo Lopez, a level 2 sex offender, is being held in the Baxter County jail on $15,000 bond.   A level 2 registered sex offender is considered at moderate risk to re-offend which requires community notification.
Sheriff Montgomery says Lopez had registered with his office giving his address as 618 County Road 27.   In late May, the sheriff received information that Lopez was no longer living at that address and had not notified the sheriff.   Friday afternoon, Lopez was arrested at a Mountain Home business.   He is set to appear in circuit court June 19th.
According to the sheriff, Eduardo Lopez had been registered with his office since 2009.   He was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree in 1999 for having sexual contact with a 9 year old male.   Public notification is justified due to the age of the victim at the time the crime was committed.
