HARRISON, Ark. (AP) _ A former top Republican in the Arkansas House who was a
key player in rallying GOP lawmakers' opposition against the federal health
overhaul is now being painted as a cheerleader for the same law as he seeks the
state Senate District 17 seat.
Tuesday's Republican runoff for a north Arkansas state Senate seat has turned
into the latest fight over the state's ``private option'' compromise Medicaid
expansion. The race pits state Rep. John Burris of Harrison against Scott Flippo
of Mountain Home, who owns an assisted living facility in Bull Shoals.
Flippo has targeted Burris over his role helping craft the private option,
calling it no different from the law they both deride as Obamacare. Burris has
accused Flippo of misrepresenting the private option and trying to make the
runoff a single issue race.
