Chase ends in crash, two injured

The pursuit of a theft suspect resulted in the injury of a Mountain Home police officer and the suspect after their vehicles collided near Walmart on Highway 62 Saturday night. The chase began after MHPD officer Larry Caruso spotted an ATV matching the description of one reported stolen earlier in the day being hauled on a trailer pulled by a blue Dodge truck. The suspect rammed Caruso's patrol and when the officer got out of the vehicle, the suspect tried to run him over. Caruso was eventually able to stop the vehicle and arrest the suspect. Mountain Home Police, Sheriff's deputies, along with emergency personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center and the Mountain Home Fire Department all responded to the scene where traffic was interrupted or shut down entirely for more than 45 minutes. Caruso sustained only minor cuts while the suspect was placed on a stretcher and taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center. The investigation of the incident continues and the name of the suspect has not been released. We will have more information as it becomes available.
