$1 million bond set for man who tried to run down police officer

A bond of $1 million dollars has been set for 53-year old Rory Allen Gregory of Mountain Home, who was arrested Saturday after he attempted to run down a Mountain Home police officer after the officer spotted him in possession of a stolen ATV. Gregory, who has a lengthy criminal record, is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center.
Gregory is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing, resisting arrest using force and theft of property. Gregory and Mountain Home Police Officer Larry Caruso were injured when Gregory rammed his pickup truck into Caruso's patrol unit and then attempted to run down Caruso after the police officer got out of his car. Caruso suffered minor cuts. Gregory was placed on a stretcher and taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center.
The incident occurred after Caruso spotted an ATV in a metal shipping crate on a trailer behind a blue Dodge truck driven by Gregory. The ATV matched the description of the one that was stolen. When Caruso attempted to stop Gregory, a pursuit began. During the chase, Gregory rammed his truck into Caruso's patrol car and then attempted to run over the officer before the police officer was able to break the truck's window and get the truck turned off.
Mountain Home Police, sheriff's deputies, along with emergency personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center and Mountain Home Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and shut down traffic in the area near Walmart for about 45 minutes.
