Details emerge from incident Saturday - man tried to grab officer's pistol

A bond of $1 million dollars has been set for 53-year old Rory Allen Gregory of Mountain Home. Gregory was arrested Saturday after trying to run down a Mountain Home police officer after the officer spotted him in possession of a stolen ATV. Gregory, who has a lengthy criminal record, is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center.
Gregory is charged with aggravated assault, fleeing, resisting arrest using force and theft of property. Gregory and Mountain Home Police Officer Larry Caruso were injured when Gregory rammed his pickup truck into the rear of Caruso's patrol unit as the officer was attempting to stop Gregory as he pulled out of Strope's Motor Sports towing a crate with the suspected ATV. Caruso exited his car and approached Gregory who grabbed the officer's hand and began dragging him beside the truck. Caruso drew his weapon; Gregory grabbed at the pistol. Caruso fired a shot that struck Gregory's dashboard. Caruso then gained control of Gregory's truck. Officers restrained Gregory who was then transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center. Caruso suffered minor cuts.
Mountain Home Police, sheriff's deputies, along with emergency personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center and Mountain Home Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and shut down traffic in the area in front of Car Mart for about 45 minutes. The Mountain Home Police report the ATV Gregory stole is valued at $10,000.
