The Ozark Medieval Fortress is being built by hand, stone by stone, over a 20-year period, staying as true as possible to construction methods from the Middle Ages. Project officials say the fortress will be a combination tourist attraction and interactive classroom when it opens for business this spring. The Fortress is located between Lead Hill and Omaha just off highway 14.
A major part of the visitor experience will be watching and interacting with artisans working on the fortress construction, including rope makers, basket weavers, stonemasons, carpenters and blacksmiths.
Plans call for the Ozark Medieval Fortress to be open seven days a week from May through November. Admission will be $8 for children ages 6 to 16 and $12 for adults. Children under 6 will be free. Groups rates are also available. To learn more about the project, visit its website at ozarkmedievalfortress.com
