With all members present, the board’s last action was the unanimous approval of eight new hires and the transfer of several bus drivers. Kimberly Caton was selected as the new special education teacher at Hackler Intermediate School following the resignation of Susan Stephenson. In addition, Steve Mendleski was hired as a new computer technician for the district, and the board approved of Manfred Staiger, Larry Bruffett, Mike Bacherl, Christy Boozer, Denise McCallie and Allen Rogers as new bus drivers.

The only policy issues brought before the board dealt with foreign exchange students as Director of Student Services Dr. Dana Brown asked for revisions to a couple of policies. One request was to change the due date for written requests from May 1st to June 1st, and Dr. Brown also asked for acceptance of exchange students to be determined by building administrators instead of selection committees. The board unanimously agreed to the revisions.

Early in the meeting, a few members of the district were recognized by the school board. The school’s FFA chapter went to the state convention in June and won several awards including the Superior Chapter as a Model of Excellence and the Easter District Sweepstakes award, and several of its members earned a trip to the national convention in Indianapolis after winning their individual competitions. In addition, Guy Berry College and Career Academy English teacher Carie O’Brien was applauded for being named the Alternative Learning Education Teacher of the Year.
