Courtesy of Mariah Foster(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.) — Multiple tornadoes hit western Michigan on Saturday with more storms expected through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials said they were assessing the damage, which included downed trees and power lines in the Grand Rapids-area. The power company, Consumers Energy, said at least 25,000 homes were without power.
“We are continuing to assess the situation and we are reminding people to stay away from downed wires,” Consumers Energy spokesman Roger Morgenstern told ABC News. “We have over 350 downed wires in the Metro Grand Rapids-area.”
The spokesman also said it “could be a couple days before all power is restored because of the extent of the damage.”
One tornado near Grand Rapids reached 40 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Saturday afternoon, no injuries were reported, Kent County Emergency Manager Jack Stewart told ABC News.
