City council races develop in Calico Rock, Horseshoe Bend

     The Izard County Clerk’s Office released its municipal filings shortly after Friday’s deadline, and the November election will include a pair of city council races.

     In Calico Rock, incumbent Ricky Knowles re-filed for his Ward 4, Position 2 seat, and he will be challenged this fall by Frederick Blickle. Two other new candidates in Calico Rock will run unopposed as Greg Hamby filed for Ward 2, Position 1, and Paul R. Tidwell is the lone candidate for Ward 3, Position 1. The unopposed incumbents include Recorder/Treasurer Stacy Stanford and council members Jackie Goggans, Charles S. Wilson, Leon Cheatham, Aubrey Watts, Jr. and Steven F. Marse.

     The other Izard County race will be in Horseshoe Bend as John Grochowski seeks re-election to Ward 4, Position 1, and his challenger will be Josh Jackson. Thomas J. Richardson will run unopposed to replace Chris Miller for Ward 2, Position 2. The incumbents with no opposition are Recorder/Treasurer Michelle Grabowski and aldermen Teresa Orrick, Joseph Moser, Marty McKnight, O.G. Minze and Ronald S. Yow.

     Three Oxford citizens filed to become new council members as Lagena Louise McBride seeks Ward 1, Position 1, Renee Everett runs for Ward 2, Position 1, and Mike McCandlis submitted his papers for Ward 4, Position 2. The incumbents who re-filed are Recorder/Treasurer Bonnie J. Moss and aldermen Billy McBride, Lawrence T. Savell, Jr., Amy Stevenson and Randy Sherrell.

     Five filings were reported for Franklin, and all are incumbents. Council members Dennis Taylor, William N. Long, Sue Smith and Randy Morris and Recorder/Treasurer Stevie Smith will all run unopposed.

     Izard County is also reporting all incumbents for Melbourne’s municipal positions. Recorder/Treasurer Alecia Bray seeks re-election, and she’ll be joined by aldermen Bill Wright, Warren Smith, Laura Sipe, Jerry W. Crosby, Paul D. Womack, Ernest F. “Trey” Lamb III and Sonia Blankenship.

     In Guion, Leslie Piel filed to be a new council member as she runs to replace Charles Williams in Position 1. The incumbents are Recorder/Treasurer Stacie Engles and aldermen James Roberts, Dale W. Piel and Randy Engles.
