Local BPW chapter has served Mtn. Home for over 72 years

     Attendance at Saturday’s 3rd Annual Women’s Expo, sponsored by Mountain Home Business and Professional Women, was estimated at over 350 with an additional 100 representatives from over 40 vendors, according to PBW member, Bette Gould. Proceeds from the women’s expo will benefit scholarships and community projects of the local BPW.

     Although PBW started in 1919, the organization didn’t come to Mountain Home until 1944, according to Bea Lewis, a member since 1971.

     Through the years, BPW has made numerous contributions to the community. They were instrumental in getting the first stop light erected in Mountain Home, built the pavilion in Hickory Park and began the community’s first library which started in the courthouse.

     Through the years BPW has supported Serenity, Gamma House and raised nearly 2,000 for Baxter House. They also award 5 scholarships to men and women each year, says Lewis.

     Five Mountain Home women have served as Arkansas State President of BPW and one as national president.

     Cari White, the former Chamber of Commerce Director and Donna Hopkins also served as State President of BPW.

     The local chapter of BPW celebrates National Business and Professional Women’s week the third week of October and each spring host an annual Omelet Brunch. They meet the second Tuesday of each month at noon at the Mountain Home Elks Club. This month Our Community Cares, sponsored by Danny Porter of Century 21 LeMac Realty, Brooks Medical Supply, Century 21 LeMac Realty and KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot focuses on Mountain Home Business and Professional Women.
