It’s a busy Friday as another season of high school football gets underway in the Natural State. Mountain Home starts the campaign by renewing one of Arkansas’s oldest rivalries at Harrison.

The Bombers off a year in which they finished 1-9, and the Goblins were 4-6. Harrison has won the last three meetings between the two schools, but Mountain Home says the key to breaking the streak offensively will be to establish its ground game.

Kickoff at F.S. Garrison Stadium is scheduled for seven p.m. Friday’s game can be heard on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com. Coverage begins at 5:30 with Arkansas High School Gameday.

Yellville-Summit also starts the year on the road against a program familiar to head coach Tommy Britt. The Panthers’ first opponent for 2016 will be Paris.

Yellville-Summit ended last season with a record of 1-9. The Eagles were 7-5 a year ago advancing to the second round of the state playoffs, and they begin this season ranked just outside of the Class 3A Top Five.

Britt, a former assistant coach at Paris, says his players are bigger and stronger this year, and there’s more depth on the roster. For those reasons, he expects his team to be improved.

Also on the local Arkansas schedule, Salem hosts Mountain View, Melbourne travels to Corning, and Marshall makes the trip to Hector.

The opening week of the season also features two games between opponents ranked in the Associated Press Top Ten. Second-ranked Har-Ber entertains number six Fort Smith Southside in Springdale, and number three Cabot is home against ninth-ranked Pine Bluff.

While the season gets started this week in Arkansas, it’s week three in the Show Me State. Among area schools, West Plains heads to Springdale to meet Glendale, Hollister hosts Logan-Rogersville, Branson travels to Carthage, Ava entertains Mountain Grove, Willow Springs makes the short trip to Cabool, and Mountain View-Liberty is home against Thayer.
