With the Batesville defense giving up 53 points per game and their offense scoring 38 points per game, no one expected a low scoring game but that’s what happened as the Pioneers held off Mountain Home for an 8-6 win. Both teams scored in the first half and then the defenses took over. The Pioneers were able to get the win despite four turnovers on the night.

Batesville scored their lone touchdown late in the first quarter on their second drive when Jaden Ward carried it in from five yards out. An offsides penalty on the extra point gave the Pioneers a chance to go for two which they converted.

Mountain Home would score their only points of the game midway through the second quarter when Isaac McKay broke free on a quarterback keeper from 20 yards out. Mountain Home went for the two-point conversion but the pass was incomplete.

After that, Batesville moved the ball well, but had three turnovers in the redzone.

It was the third tough loss by the Bombers, who have lost three games by a combined 14 points.

Mountain Home is 0-3 on the season and will host Jonesboro next week to begin 6A East Conference play.

Batesville improves to 1-2.
