HAMPTON, Ark. (AP) Officials say a 26-year-old assistant football coach at a south Arkansas high school has died after collapsing at practice.

Hampton coach Wes Ables says the team was practicing defensive drills Tuesday afternoon when assistant coach Jorre McMahan collapsed.

McMahan was taken by ambulance to the Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden. Ouachita County Coroner Sylvester Smith tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that McMahan arrived at the hospital at 5:46 p.m. Tuesday and was pronounced dead 10 minutes later.

Smith says an autopsy should be released Thursday.

McMahan was in his first season at Hampton after spending two seasons at Barton. Ables says this week’s matchup against Camden Harmony Grove may be rescheduled.

Hampton is 4-0 so far this year and has averaged more than 50 points per game.
