JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) Gov. Jay Nixon is appointing Harry Bozoian as director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Nixon said in a release Friday that Bozoian will take over at the state DNR on Oct. 7. He replaces Sara Parker Pauley, who has been named director of the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Nixon says Bozoian, of Columbia, is a senior policy adviser to the governor and also has served as the lead official for the state of Missouri on issues concerning the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.

Bozoian has also been a deputy director for the Missouri Department of Agriculture, where he served as acting director in 2013.

The state Department of Natural Resources oversees several programs including Missouri State Parks and the Missouri Geological Survey.
