Children escape, 9 dogs die in southwest Missouri fire

ASH GROVE, Mo. (AP) Fire officials say several people were able to escape a farmhouse fire in southwest Missouri but nine dogs in the home died.

Ash Grove firefighter Tony Monnig says one adult, four children and three other dogs were able to escape the blaze Thursday afternoon near Ash Grove.

Monnig says a young woman reported the fire and then was able to get her younger siblings out of the house.

The Springfield News-Leader reports no residents or firefighters were injured in the fire.

Monnig says the cause of the fire is being investigated but nothing indicates it was suspicious.

He says the house was significantly damaged.
