Helena Housing Authority director faces federal theft charge

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) The executive director of the Helena Housing Authority has been charged with three felony counts of theft.

The U.S. attorney says 58-year-old Lionell Moss was arrested Friday on two counts of theft from a program receiving federal funds and one count of theft of government money or property.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports Moss pleaded not guilty to the charges during a brief court appearance Friday afternoon.

Prosecutors say Moss submitted fraudulent reimbursement requests for sick leave and annual leave and that he used the housing authority’s credit cards for personal expenses. Prosecutors say he illegally received nearly $58,000 between October 2011 and January 2015.

Moss faces up to 30 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000 if convicted on all three counts.
