(AP) – A lawsuit filed by the former director of the
Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management against the city of
Columbia and several city officials has been dismissed.
Zim Schwartze, who was the emergency management director after serving as a
Columbia police captain, filed the lawsuit claiming she was fired and denied due
process in 2012 as retribution for criticizing police chief Ken Burton in
statement to an outside consultant. The city has claimed Schwartze was removed
from her position because of budget cuts.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that a settlement between the parties may
be close and a judge dismissed the case Thursday.
Schwartze’s legal team said in a filing Thursday that Schwartze would
voluntarily dismiss case as a settlement is being finalized.
