(AP) – Alcohol sales will soon be legal in Little River County in
southwest Arkansas after voters approved a plan that allows the sale of beer and
wine in retail stores.
Nearly 60 percent of voters supported the measure in Tuesday’s election. The
Texarkana Gazette reports that the Ashdown City Council and the Little River
County Quorum Court will determine how the new policy will be implemented.
County voters last considered alcohol sales about 70 years ago, when the
measure failed.
The measure was placed on the ballot after supporters turned in more than
4,100 petition signatures. Kirk Babb of the Vote for Growth committee says the
alcohol sales will provide a significant boost for the local economy.
