ABC/Image Group LAAfter two weeks off the road, Dierks Bentley was dying to get back on stage. Monday night at Legends Corner on Lower Broadway in Nashville, the “Black” hitmaker did just that, playing a free show for 200 lucky fans at the venue just across the street from Bridgestone Arena, where he’ll headline January 21.

The CMA Musical Event of the Year winner revealed the impromptu gig on Facebook earlier in the day, after posting another video over the weekend featuring the debut of his family’s new pup.

“The dog’s great!” Dierks told ABC Radio. “We’ve got a new puppy. Just went to the Humane Society, just grabbed a dog, within like 15 minutes of being there. We brought her home and her name is Emmylou Hoo, which is a combination of Emmylou Harris and Cindy Lou Who. The kids wanted Cindy Lou Who and I wanted Emmylou Harris, so we got Emmylou Hoo!”

The Bentleys happened to have a doggie vacancy at their house, after the passing of Dierks’ longtime companion Jake over the summer.
