JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) The chairman of the Missouri Republican Party says he’s stepping down.
Chairman John Hancock said Friday that he will serve in the position until a replacement is picked in January. He says he plans to return to political consulting.
Missouri Republican State Committee members elected Hancock to the job in 2015.
He served as a party leader during an election cycle that brought big wins for the GOP. Republicans won six statewide seats, including governor. Republican U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt also kept his seat after a tight race against Democratic Secretary of State Jason Kander.
The GOP also kept supermajorities in the state House and Senate.
Hancock praised Executive Director Jonathon Prouty and GOP candidates who he said were “superior.”
