(AP) – Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is proposing moving the

state’s energy office to the Department of Environmental Quality and reducing

the number of committees that inspect local jails.

Hutchinson told reporters Monday the changes will be part of a restructuring

plan he’ll submit to the Legislature during next year’s session. He said moving

the energy office, currently housed at the Arkansas Economic Development

Commission, will help as the state receives $14 million through a settlement

with Volkswagen that will be distributed by ADEQ for energy-related needs.

Hutchinson said he’ll also propose cutting the number of criminal detention

facility review committees in the state from 28 to eight. The move would reduce

the number of committee members from 144 to 40.
