Brinkley mayor won't pursue investigation of police chief

(AP) – The mayor of Brinkley says he won't pursue an
investigation of the city's police chief for excessive speeding because
witnesses could've been joking about how fast he was driving.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Police Chief Ed Randle wasn't
issued a citation for the Oct. 21 incident in Clarendon. Randle was driving his
pickup truck when he was stopped by state Trooper Charles Williams, who was
assisting a Brinkley police officer.
Brinkley Mayor Billy Hankins sent a letter last month to Deputy Prosecuting
Attorney J. Baxter Sharp III asking for an investigation, but Sharp said he
could only investigate criminal matters.
Hankins says he can't tell if comments from witnesses in dash-camera video and
audio of the traffic stop were made in a joking manner because everyone was
laughing.
