Brett Eldredge Scores a Holiday Hit with Pop Star Meghan Trainor

Atlantic/Warner Music NashvilleMeghan Trainor may be a pop star with a Best New Artist Grammy to her credit, but the “All About that Bass” hitmaker also has her fingerprints — and her voice — all over country music.

Earlier this year, Meghan scored a number-one as a writer with Rascal Flatts’ “I Like the Sound of That,” and right now she has a top-20 hit with the composition she authored with Lauren Alaina, “Road Less Traveled.”

If that weren’t enough, she also has a big holiday hit with her duet with Brett Eldredge on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” from his new Christmas album, Glow.

As Brett explains, he and Meghan have known each other for a while, but this was their first time singing together.  “Meghan and I were in People magazine’s Ones to Watch edition maybe two or three years ago,” he tells ABC Radio. “And so we were there with all these actors and actresses from, like, Game of Thrones and movie stars, and… we both were Nashville people.”

“We hit it off and became pals and were like, ‘We gotta stick together!'” he recalls. “So then fast-forward a couple of years later, I was like, ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ — who’s the one voice I would want on this?” And it was Meghan Trainor.”

Brett says he’s “so grateful” that Meghan was able to do the duet with him, saying, “It’s a magic recording, so I had a blast with it… She just has a classic voice and it’s a classic song.”

Unfortunately, as is true so often of collaborations these days, Brett and Meghan weren’t able to be in the studio together, so they did their parts separately.  Still, Brett says that didn’t hurt the recording.

“We didn’t get to do it at the same time which was a bummer,” he says, adding, “She has such a playful energy and is so animated that you don’t really have to have that. I mean, it would have been ideal if we could have, but it’s just crazy.”
