(AP) – Officials with the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport
have finalized a bond issue to build a new parking deck.
The contract for the new, 1,400-space parking deck has a maximum cost of $35
million. On Wednesday, airport officials agreed to a $25 million bond issue for
the project, and officials say the remaining $10 million will come from money
the airport has in reserve.
The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that construction of the
parking deck is expected to reduce short-term parking spaces from 491 to 274
next year.
Population and business growth in northwest Arkansas has led to more activity
at the airport in Highfill. Earlier this month, American Airlines announced
plans for a new nonstop flight between northwest Arkansas and Washington, D.C.
