(AP) – An Arkansas circuit judge has been arrested after
police say he was driving drunk through a DWI checkpoint in Johnson County and
had to be chased down.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports 57-year-old Fifth Judicial Circuit
Judge William M. Pearson was arrested Friday night in Clarksville when troopers
at a sobriety checkpoint saw a pickup driven by Pearson fail to stop. Troopers
were pursuing Pearson for about 1.5 miles and eventually blocked him with a
state police patrol car when he tried to get back on the highway.
Pearson was released from the Johnson County sheriff’s office early Saturday
after posting a $1,400 bond.
Formal charges will be filed after the case is assigned a special prosecutor.
Pearson is scheduled to appear in court March 3.
