LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A Blytheville man who sued the city, its police chief and a patrol officer over claims authorities used excessive force by stunning him with a Taser has settled the suit.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Chardrick Mitchell was awarded $35,000 on Friday after city officials approved the settlement.
Mitchell claimed a Blytheville officer used excessive force against him when the officer shot Mitchell at his apartment complex in July after responding to a disturbance call.
Mitchell claimed in his lawsuit that he was "calm and quiet" and at no time resisted arrest, but that the officer still stunned him.
Mike Mosely, an Arkansas Municipal League attorney who represented the city and police, says the settlement is "the proper resolution."
