In high school basketball, the 2A-2 Conference Tournament got underway Saturday at the Cotter Coliseum.

Both of Flippin’s teams watched their season come to an end. The Bobcat boys were doubled up by East Poinsett County 88-44. Flippin’s girls did not fare any better as they fell to Marmaduke 52-18.

The Salem girls were able to hold off a comeback and defeat East Poinsett County 64-56. Quincy Humphries led the Lady Greyhounds with 17 points, Kaylea Walling scored 12, Lindsey Smith had 11, and Madison Sellars added ten points. Salem advanced to Thursday’s semifinals, and they will also be guaranteed a regional tournament bid the following week.

The final boys’ game of the night needed overtime as Sloan-Hendrix edged out Marmaduke 70-68.



The 2A/1A-3 Junior District Tournament came to an end at Izard County High School in Brockwell.

Flippin’s quest to come away with the girls’ title fell short as they lost to Viola 43-31. The Junior Lady Bobcats were led by Kyra Hargrove with 23 points.

Mammoth Spring took the boys’ championship in overtime as they beat top-seeded Izard County 54-46. Zack Flynn was the Junior Bears’ top scorer with 19 points, and Daniel Mayfield chipped in 18. For the host Junior Cougars, Caleb Faulkner had 28 points, and Coby Everett finished with 12.
