(AP) – Revenue to The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery in January
fell by $21.7 million from the record collections of January 2016 and the amount
raised for college scholarships fell by $5.9 million.
A report to Gov. Asa Hutchinson and the lottery oversight panel says a total
of $37.1 million was collected last month with $7.9 million going toward
scholarships.
January 2016 sales were boosted by a world-record $1.6 billion Powerball.
Lottery Director Bishop Woosley told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that January
numbers compare favorably with December if $20 million of the year ago purchases
are attributed to the record Powerball jackpot.
The report shows lottery revenue for the first seven months of fiscal year
2017 at $250 million, about $14 million less than a year ago and $9.6 million
less than projected.
