Monday's basketball results, MH junior girls win thriller

In junior high basketball Monday, the Mountain Home teams began play in the 6A-East Conference Tournament at Annie Camp Junior High in Jonesboro and for the Junior Lady Bombers, the advanced in a wild finish. The Junior Lady Bombers were down by one with seven seconds left. They missed a shot and Annie Camp got the ball, but they turned it over, Mountain Home’s Abby Dietsche dove on the lose ball and, from her knees, made a shot at the buzzer to give Mountain Home the win 36-35.

The Junior Lady Bombers move on to the semifinals Wednesday night in Jonesboro with a 15-4 record.



The season ended for the Mountain Home freshmen boys as they lost their first round game in the tournament. The Junior Bombers fell to Marion 45-22. Mountain Home’s final record is 10-11.





The 2A-2 Conference Basketball Tournament wrapped up its first round Monday at Cotter.

The host Lady Warriors advanced to the semifinals and clinched a berth in next week’s Class 2A North Regional Tournament. Cotter beat up on Marked Tree 67-39. The Lady Warriors will meet Marmaduke on Thursday.

Sloan-Hendrix won the other girls’ game over Buffalo Island Central 57-43. Salem will be Sloan-Hendrix’s opponent in Thursday’s semifinals.

Cotter did not fare as well on the boys’ side. The Warriors watched their season come to an end as they fell to Buffalo Island Central 77-64.

Salem was also eliminated from the boys’ bracket as they lost to Marked Tree 78-39. Stephen Shoup led the Greyhounds with 11 points. Salem’s final record for the year is 6-17.



The 1A-2 North Conference Tournament got underway at the Bobby D. Hulse Gymnasium in Norfork.

The host Panthers will be guaranteed a bid to the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament after they defeated Viola 65-34. Norfork will play in Thursday’s semifinals against top-seeded Izard County.

The other boys’ game was won by Calico Rock after a 59-44 decision over Hillcrest. The Pirates will be matched up with Mammoth Spring on Thursday.

Viola was bounced from the girls’ bracket by Mammmoth Spring by a score of 58-32. The Lady Bears were led by Brianna Hocum with 20 points, and Stephine Henry and Bailey Hocum added ten each. Mammoth Spring improves to 15-15 on the year, and their semifinal opponent will be Izard County.

Calico Rock dominated the other girls’ contest over Hillcrest 70-43. The Lady Pirates will be paired with top-seeded Norfork Thursday.



The 3A-1 East Conference Tournament began Monday at Mountain View.

Yellville-Summit’s boys were able to upset the host Yellowjackets 59-51. Jacob Gentry was the Panthers’ top scorer with 16 points, Nash Dowden scored 14, and Cameron Curtis chipped in 13. For Mountain View, Tanner Buchanan had 23 points, Ryan Wilcox finished with 13, and Evan Isbell ended up with 12.

Bergman’s season came to an end in the other boys’ contest. The Panthers fell to Clinton 70-45.

Yellville-Summit was eliminated from the girls’ side as they were edged out by Clinto 52-49. Justina Jenkins led the Lady Panthers with 19 points, and Kyli Duffy added 11.

The other girls’ game put an end to Marshall’s season. The Lady Bobcats lost to Bergman 49-43.



The 1A-1 East Conference Tournament got started at the Pioneer Pavilion on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison. Bruno-Pyatt’s girls were bounced by Deer 45-32. In the boys’ games, Bruno-Pyatt fell to Western Grove 48-33, and St. Joe lost a close game to Mount Judea 47-44.



A pair of area teams were eliminated from the 1A-2 South Conference Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. Timbo’s girls were upset by Shirley 49-25, and the Rural Special boys were edged out by Midland 57-56.



Lead Hill began hosting the 1A-1 Northwest Conference Tournament, and they were able to pull off a first round sweep over Decatur. The Lady Tigers topped the Lady Bulldogs 52-33, and Lead Hill’s boys followed with a 46-36 victory over Decatur. Both Tiger teams will play top-seeded Omaha in Thursday’s semifinals.



Gainesville’s girls were able to go on the road and win a matchup of teams ranked in Missouri’s Class 2. The fourth-ranked Lady Bulldogs defeated number five Norwood 41-35 to improve to 21-1 on the season.
