Arkansas man arrested following wife's fatal shooting

     (AP) – Police in Jacksonville say they have arrested a

63-year-old man in connection with his wife’s shooting death.

     A police report indicates that Larry James Hawkins was arrested early Sunday

at his home in Jacksonville on charges of first-degree murder, possession of a

firearm by a certain person and aggravated assault on a family member.

     Officers responded to the house about 1 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of

a shooting. The police report says the victim’s son told police that his father

had shot his mother. Investigators found the victim with a gunshot wound on the

floor of a bedroom. Her name has not been made public.

     Hawkins told detectives that “it was an accident.” He is being held in the

Pulaski County jail and no bond was initially set.
