Cotter and Norfork Quiz Bowl Teams headed to State

The Cotter and Norfork Senior High School Quiz Bowl Teams are geared up for the State Finals Championship game Saturday afternoon and may be viewed on the Arkansas Educational Television Network website http://www.aetn.org/. Matches begin at 9:00 in the morning, however the two teams won’t compete until 1:30. The two teams are in different divisions Cotter is in the 2A finals and Norfork is in the 1A finals.Cotter High School’s Gifted and Talented and Advanced Placement Coordinator Monica Springfield says their team was undefeated in regionals. They went undefeated in the state tournament as well. They will face Conway Christian for the state title.

Springfield says the Cotter team practices all year, anywhere from two to four times a week, and uses invitational tournaments to hone their skills.

Norfork Senior High Quiz Bowl Coach and English Teacher, Stacy Havner, is the Norfork Senior High Quiz Bowl Coach. She says students went to the event in Conway Friday afternoon to tour the AETN facilities and have a practice run. They will face Haas Hall Academy of Bentonville.

Havner says her students’ dedication to practice and the desire to win have been the contributing factors to their success.

Kristen Kite, a student on the team, agrees. She says last year’s Norfork Quiz Bowl champions are her inspiration.

She says the most challenging aspect of the competition is how fast contestants need to be to process the answer to a question and push a button to answer first.
