Local athletes win 53 medals in Special Olympics

Twenty-five athletes from Baxter and Marion Counties recently competed in the Arkansas Special Olympic summer games held on the campus of Harding University in Searcy. They were among over 2,000 total athletes taking part.

Eighteen of the Twin Lakes Area’s competitors were in the track and field events including the softball throw, shot put, 400-meter walk and relay running race. The local team took home 14 gold medals, 14 silver and four bronze medals.

The other seven athletes competed in the powerlifting events. The local medal count included four gold, 11 silver and six bronze.
