The Mark Oliver Crooked Creek Access on Crooked Creek in Marion County will be dedicated in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at 1. The location was formerly known as the George’s Creek Access and is located near the confluence with Crooked Creek and George’s Creek.

Oliver retired from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 2015 as chief of fisheries after 38 years of service. From 1984 to 2005, he served as the fisheries chief in the Game and Fish Commission’s Mountain Home office before moving to the main office in Little Rock.

During his tenure in Mountain Home, Oliver’s duties included oversight of fishing in the area waterways in seven Arkansas counties.

The decision to name the access after the retired fisheries chief came in a meeting earlier this year. At the time, Oliver was credited with having worked to obtain an access to Crooked Creek between points at Snow and Kelly’s Slab. Oliver announced the acquisition to the commission in June 2015 in his last meeting prior to his retirement.
