Area children are invited to the Kids Fishing Derby Saturday morning at Quarry Park below the Norfork Dam. The annual event is hosted by the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, the Friends of the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the North Arkansas Fly Fishers, Gene’s Trout Fishing Resort and Walmart in Mountain Home.
The derby is free and open to all children between 2 and 15 years of age. Children participating in the Fishing Derby must supply their own fishing gear and be accompanied by an adult.
Registration starts and eight a.m. with fishing to begin an hour later. Children will be divided into three age groups with trophies awarded in each age group. There will be prizes for all children in attendance and lunch will be served when fishing concludes.
