The Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center is presenting a free traveling exhibit entitled, “Arkansas/Arkansaw: A State and Her Reputation.” The exhibit is open now until July 8 from 9:00 in the morning until to 5:00 in the afternoon Tuesday through Saturday in the Murphy Gallery. Admission is free. The exhibit highlights artifacts from the Old State House Collection and is presented in partnership with the Arkansas Humanities Council. It examines the myths and realities that gave rise to Arkansas’ reputation as a backward, lawless, isolated state populated by hillbillies, moonshiners, and bears. From the “Arkansas Traveler” and “The Big Bear of Arkansas” to the “Beverly Hillbillies” and “Dogpatch, USA,” this exhibit sheds new light on the Natural State and its representation, and misrepresentation, across the nation and world.
